89(1) HR 72 - Introduced version - Bill Text 89S10849 CJM-D By: Hinojosa H.R. No. 72 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Most Reverend Daniel E. Garcia was appointed by Pope Leo XIV as bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin on July 2, 2025; and WHEREAS, Bishop Garcia was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Austin in 1988, and he went on to serve as associate pastor of St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Humble and three Austin parishes, St. Catherine of Siena, Cristo Rey, and St. Louis King of France, and as founding pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Austin; in 2014, he was named vicar general and moderator of the curia, and the following year he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Austin; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Bishop Garcia has held a number of leadership roles with the diocese, including vocation director and master of ceremonies for the bishop, chair of the Presbyteral Council, and dean of the Austin North Deanery, and he served as a member of the Diocesan Vocation Team, Liturgical Commission, Diaconal Advisory Committee, College of Consultors, and Priests' Personnel Board; he left the Diocese of Austin in 2019 to become bishop of the Diocese of Monterey in California; and WHEREAS, A native of Central Texas, Bishop Garcia holds an associate's degree from …
