No. 169 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Dr. Ruben Gallegos Elementary School in the Brownsville Independent School District is celebrating its 25th anniversary during the 2025-2026 school year; and WHEREAS, Opened in 2001, the school is named for Dr. Ruben Gallegos, the original principal of Castañeda Elementary in Brownsville, which was founded to serve migrant students; he also held leadership positions with Dallas ISD and Edinburg ISD, and he taught future school administrators during his tenure as a professor at The University of Texas at Brownsville; and WHEREAS, Gallegos Elementary is located on Avenida Rancho Viejo in Brownsville, and today, the campus benefits from the able leadership of its principal, Cynthia Cardenas; since its inception, the school has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to providing students with a quality education and a positive learning environment, and it has promoted student activities such as the University Interscholastic League, chess club, and science fair; and WHEREAS, Over the course of the past two and a half decades, Gallegos Elementary has given countless young Texans a strong foundation on which to build, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing the school on this milestone occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature, 2nd …
