An Act, SJR___ COMMENDING THE MORGAN COUNTY EDUCATION RETIREES ASSOCIATION ON WINNING THE STATEWIDE COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD. WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, warm congratulations and commendations are conveyed to the Morgan County Education Retirees Association (MCERA) on winning the Statewide Community Service Award; and WHEREAS, the members of the MCERA know that volunteering in their communities has positive effects on the residents; they willingly and cheerfully reach out to help improve the quality of life in Morgan County; and WHEREAS, throughout 2024, the association engaged in many service projects for several local nonprofits, including Clothe our Kids project "Tuesday Undies"; Sleep in Heavenly Peace project "No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town"; the Neighborhood Christian Center food pantry project, "Lend a Hand, Give a Can"; a partnership with GFWC Alabama River City Woman's Club to provide Christmas gifts to children with incarcerated parents; Veterans Day cards given at the City Village Center; Christmas cards delivered to The Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Priceville; and 20 children's books were donated to two Little Free Libraries; the organization also gave scholarships to the Calhoun Ensemble Singers and a senior Page scholarships to the Calhoun Ensemble Singers and a senior SJR88 Enrolled student at Athens State University going into the field of education; and WHEREAS, in …
