An Act, RECOGNIZING THE ALABAMA YOM HASHOAH COMMEMORATION ON APRIL 14, 2026. WHEREAS, the Alabama Holocaust Commission will host a 2026 State Yom HaShoah Commemoration on April 14, 2026, to observe the passage of Yom HaShoah at the Alabama Department of Archives and History; and WHEREAS, the State of Israel instituted Yom HaShoah in 1951; it is now commemorated around the world as a day of remembrance for the 6,000,000 Jewish men, women, and children who perished in the Holocaust, a time in human history so dark and revolting that no words in the dictionary adequately describe it; and WHEREAS, Yom HaShoah commemorations include synagogue services, communal vigils, and educational programs, as well as the lighting of memorial candles and the reciting of prayers for the departed in solemn ceremonies; and WHEREAS, Alabamians not only mourn the Jews lost in the Holocaust, but also the survivors who have died in the last year, including Jack Schachter, who was honored here last year; Mr. Schachter's detailed stories, as well as those of other survivors, describe the hellish conditions of the concentration camps and the unspeakable horrors they experienced; those stories are a constant reminder of what evil men are capable of; and Page evil men are capable of; and HJR343 Enrolled WHEREAS, Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, and Holocaust survivor …
