An act relating to the Coconut Grove Playhouse, Miami-2 Dade County; providing legislative intent; requiring Miami-Dade County to transfer the existing property interest in the Coconut Grove Playhouse to the Town of Bay Harbor Islands; providing duties of the town; providing an effective date. WHEREAS, the Coconut Grove Playhouse is a historic and cultural landmark of the State of Florida, significant to Miami-10 Dade County and to the people of this state, and WHEREAS, the State of Florida, through prior conveyance, placed restrictive covenants and preservation obligations upon the Coconut Grove Playhouse property, requiring its continued use and protection for public, historic, and cultural purposes, and WHEREAS, the Department of Environmental Protection has issued directives to Miami-Dade County regarding the preservation and stabilization of the playhouse property, and WHEREAS, in a letter dated March 1, 2019, the Division of Historical Resources of the Department of State found that the county's plan to demolish the playhouse structure and restore two exterior facades would be inappropriate and inconsistent with state and federal preservation standards, warned that demolition could lead to removal of the property from the HB 1559 2026 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hb1559-00 Page 2 of FLORIDAHOUSEOFREPRESENTATIVES National Register of Historic Places, and, citing s. 267.061(2)(b), Florida Statutes, recommended that the county evaluate feasible alternatives, and …
