A RESOLUTION Recognizing April 26, 2025, as Mr. Johnny C. Nimes Day; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Mr. Johnny C. Nimes, affectionately known as "The Retirement Coach," was a native of Augusta, Georgia, who received his education at Immaculate Conception Catholic School, A. R. Johnson Junior High School, Lucy Craft Laney High School, Paine College, and Bowling Green State University; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes was a star varsity basketball athlete at Lucy Craft Laney High School and became the first male drum major for the Lucy Craft Laney High School "Pride of Augusta" Marching Band; and WHEREAS, he graduated with honors in the top ten percent of his 1971 graduating class, ranking sixth out of 338 students, and was a life member, 2019 Hall of Fame inductee, first president, and founding member of the Lucy Craft Laney High School Alumni Association Inc.; and WHEREAS, Mr. Nimes received the first awarded basketball scholarship to attend Paine College, where he served as team captain and was elected vice president of the Paine College H. R. LC 112 3449 Student Government Association, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and graduating cum laude in 1975; and WHEREAS, he furthered his education at Bowling Green State University, earning a Master of Arts in college student personnel in 1983 while maintaining a 3.55 grade point …
