A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Councilman Alphonso Thomas and dedicating an intersection in his memory; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, Councilman Alphonso Thomas has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and WHEREAS, Councilman Thomas attended Smith Barnes Elementary School, the Henry County Training School in McDonough, and earned a football scholarship to Fort Valley State University; and WHEREAS, affectionately known as "Blue," Councilman Thomas served the City of Stockbridge for more than 35 years; and WHEREAS, he was employed by the Economic Opportunity Authority as a youth organizer at Perry Holmes where he mentored youth, and his commitment to civic engagement also extended through his membership in the Esquire Fraternity and Fort Valley State alumni; and H. R. 1887 LC 39 5116 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Councilman Thomas was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Councilman Thomas was recognized with numerous honors, including the Henry County NAACP Freedom Fund Community Service award, the Eagle Scout Mentor's Pin from Troop #65, and the Zeta Mu Nu Chapter Omega Citizen of the year award; and WHEREAS, he was known for his principled leadership, collaborative spirit, and commitment to …
