A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Mr. Dan Magill and dedicating an intersection in his memory; and for other purposes. WHEREAS, the State of Georgia continues to mourn the loss of one of the University of Georgia's legends with the passing of Mr. Dan Magill in August of 2014; and WHEREAS, Mr. Magill was born on January 25, 1921, and was a native of Athens, Georgia, where he began his lifelong affiliation with the University of Georgia athletic program as a bat boy for the baseball team and manager for the tennis team; and WHEREAS, as an attendee of the University of Georgia, Mr. Magill was an invaluable member of the university's swim and tennis teams, volunteered as an assistant football coach, and was a member of the Chi Psi fraternity before graduating with a degree in journalism in 1942; and WHEREAS, Mr. Magill served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and, upon his return home, worked briefly as the prep sports editor with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; and H. R. 1942 LC 39 5124 WHEREAS, in 1949, this lifelong Bulldog returned home to his alma mater to serve as the university's sports information director, and later he established The Georgia Bulldog newspaper and founded the Bulldog Club; …
