HR1016LRB104 22942 ECR 39396 r HR1016 LRB104 22942 ECR 39396 r HR1016 LRB104 22942 ECR 39396 r HOUSE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend David Coleman Sr., who passed away on July 21, 2026; and WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman was born to Reverend John and Ruby Coleman in Parkdale, Arkansas on May 14, 1934; and WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman worked as a maintenance man at Stone Terrace Apartments on Chicago's South Side for more than 20 years, where he became known for his exceptional work ethic, craftsmanship, and willingness to help others; and WHEREAS, Pastor Coleman served as the pastoral leadership of New Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church for more than years, during which time he purchased, renovated, and transformed a former warehouse into the church's permanent home; under his leadership, the church served as a community sanctuary where youth programs, choir ministries, neighborhood gatherings, meal distributions, and countless community events flourished; the church also hosted early campaign activities for the mayoral campaign of Mayor Harold Washington and later supported the aldermanic campaigns of Alderperson Shirley A.
