HR1030LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r HR1030 LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r HR1030 LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r HOUSE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Maria Elena Jonas for her extraordinary career and nearly four decades of service to the immigrant community of Lake County; and WHEREAS, Maria Jonas was born in Milpillas, Jalisco, Mexico and was the first woman in her community to earn a bachelor's degree, paving the way for future generations of young women, before immigrating to the United States at the age of 21; and WHEREAS, Maria Jonas holds a bachelor's degree in public health and community development, a master's degree in human resource management, and a Certificate of Entrepreneurship from City Colleges of Chicago's 10,000 Small Businesses Program and is an alumna of the Latino Policy Forum's Nonprofit Leadership Academy; and WHEREAS, Maria Jonas' lifelong dedication to serving others began in Lake County in 1987, where she played a vital role in implementing the 1986 federal amnesty, guiding thousands of undocumented immigrants in removing legal barriers to secure legal status, citizenship, and voting rights; and HR1030- 2 -LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r HR1030 - 2 - LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r HR1030 - 2 - LRB104 23277 MST 39748 r WHEREAS, Maria Jonas established Lake County's first licensed child …
