HR1049LRB104 23522 RMO 40002 r HR1049 LRB104 23522 RMO 40002 r HR1049 LRB104 23522 RMO 40002 r HOUSE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former Chicago Bears player and head coach Michael Keller "Mike" Ditka of Chicago, who passed away on October 9, 2026; and WHEREAS, Mike Ditka was born to Michael and Charlotte Ditka in Carnegie, Pennsylvania on October 18, 1939; he was raised in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and attended St. Titus School; he later attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he excelled as a multisport athlete and began building the foundation of a remarkable athletic career; he married Diana Trantham in 1977; and WHEREAS, Mike Ditka was selected by the Chicago Bears fifth overall in the National Football League (NFL) draft of 1961; he immediately made his presence felt in his first season with 58 receptions and 12 touchdowns, the most of any Bears rookie; he revolutionized the tight end position, which had previously been dedicated to blocking; and WHEREAS, Mike Ditka played for the Chicago Bears for the next five years and continued to contribute significantly to the team's success, earning a Pro Bowl appearance each season; and HR1049- 2 -LRB104 23522 RMO 40002 r HR1049 - 2 - LRB104 23522 RMO 40002 r HR1049 - …
