Whereas, Robert Hall Weir, known professionally as Bob Weir, was a founding member, guitarist, and vocalist of the Grateful Dead, one of the most influential and enduring bands in American music; Whereas, For more than six decades, Bob Weir shaped the sound of American music through his distinctive rhythm guitar style, innovative songwriting, and unwavering commitment to live performance; Whereas, His work drew deeply from the traditions that define Americana, including blues, jazz, folk, country, and rock, then blended them into a uniquely American sound that influenced generations of musicians and helped shape modern HR 1531/DI 140 2026 music culture; Whereas, Through his performances with the Grateful Dead, RatDog, Furthur, Dead & Company, and numerous collaborations, Bob Weir helped create one of the most enduring music communities in American music; Whereas, Bob Weir and the Grateful Dead shared a long and meaningful relationship with Indiana audiences, especially through their performances at the venue remembered by generations of Hoosiers simply as "Deer Creek"; Whereas, His music fostered a sense of community, connection, and joy that reached people of all ages and Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana: SECTION 1.
