CHARBONNEAU , read first time and referred to Committee on 2026 RC 1529/DI JR Introduced Second Regular Session 124th General Assembly (2026) SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION No. _____ A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Indiana Beach on their 100th anniversary. Whereas, Founded as Ideal Beach in 1926 by Earl W. Spackman, Indiana Beach has grown into a full regional amusement park and vacation resort on Lake Shafer; Whereas, The early years consisted of a bathhouse and refreshment stand on the shores of Lake Shafer, then a dance hall was added in 1930, which became a popular spot for big bands, earning the nickname "The Riviera of the Midwest"; Whereas, From the 1950s through the 1990s, the park shifted its focus towards amusement rides under Earl Spackman's son, Tom Spackman, who renamed it Indiana Beach and proceeded to add a large paddlewheel boat in 1961, roller coasters in the 1970s, and a water park in the 1990s; Whereas, The Spackman family sold the park in 2008, then it was sold again in 2015, and just five years later it faced permanent closure in February 2020; Whereas, Chicago businessman Gene Staples purchased the park in April 2020, and by the end of June 2020, the park reopened; and Whereas, Indiana Beach and Amusement Park and …
