PRESIDENT: I offer the following resolution and move its adoption: A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Dr. Gerardo Gomez. Whereas, Dr. Gerardo Alfredo Gomez Losada was born on April 13, 1946, in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and passed away at age 74 in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Thursday, August 6, 2020; Whereas, Already a respected student and community member after his graduation from medical school at Universidad de Carabobo in Venezuela, Dr. Gomez immigrated to America and completed his surgical residency at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester; Whereas, After Dr. Gomez completed his residency, he started his career as a trauma surgeon in 1982 at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, and eight years later, he became the Chief of Trauma Surgery at Wishard Hospital, Indianapolis, as a faculty member at Indiana University; Whereas, This was the beginning of Dr. Gomez's 26-year career serving the community of Indianapolis, showing that you do not need to be born a Hoosier to become one; 2026 DR 3858/DI aj Whereas, Throughout Dr. Gomez's career, he mentored thousands of students, doctors, nurses, and paramedics, taking great …
