A BILL FOR An Act relating to the timing of school district bond elections. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 6669YH (2) mb/md H.F. 2404 Section 1. Section 39.2, subsection 4, paragraph d, Code 2026, is amended to read as follows: d. (1) For any political subdivision of this state that is not a school district, if the special election is in whole or in part for the question of issuing bonds or other indebtedness, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. (2) For a school district, if the special election is in whole or in part for the question of issuing bonds or other indebtedness, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year. EXPLANATION The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. This bill relates to the timing of school district bond elections. The bill provides that a school district bond election may only be held on the date of the general election as defined in Code section 39.1, which is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year.
