A BILL FOR An Act relating to the staff sergeant William Nathaniel Howard highway, and including applicability provisions. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 6009YH (2) th/ns H.F. 2478 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 314.32 Staff sergeant William Nathaniel Howard highway. The segment of the highway known as United States highway within the corporate limits of the city of Marshalltown shall be designated as the "Staff Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard Highway" in honor of William "Nate" Howard, who was killed in action in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13, 2025, while serving in the Iowa army national guard. Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to the segment of United States highway 30 within the corporate limits of the city of Marshalltown on the effective date of this Act, and shall apply to that segment thereafter regardless of whether the highway's designation as United States highway 30 is subsequently changed by the government of the United States. EXPLANATION The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. This bill designates the segment of U.S. highway 30 within the corporate limits of Marshalltown as the "Staff Sergeant William Nathaniel Howard Highway". U.S. highway 30 is more than 300 miles long across Iowa including approximately miles traversing …
