A BILL FOR An Act relating to state law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration and customs enforcement. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 5921XS (1) as/js S.F. 2097 Section 1. Section 27A.2, Code 2026, is amended to read as follows: 27A.2 Law enforcement agency duties ---- immigration detainer requests. 1. All law enforcement agencies and officers in the state shall cooperate and work with United States immigration and customs enforcement and any other federal immigration-related agencies when requested. 2. A law enforcement agency in this state that has custody of a person subject to an immigration detainer request issued by United States immigration and customs enforcement shall fully comply with any instruction made in the detainer request and in any other legal document provided by a federal agency. EXPLANATION The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly. This bill relates to state law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration and customs enforcement. The bill provides that all law enforcement agencies and officers in the state shall cooperate and work with United States immigration and customs enforcement and any other federal immigration-related agencies when requested.
