A BILL FOR An Act relating to the licensure of crematory operators and funeral establishments, and making penalties applicable. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: TLSB 2465XS (2) ss/ko S.F. Section 1. Section 156.1, Code 2025, is amended by adding the following new subsection: NEW SUBSECTION. 3A. "Crematory operator" means a person licensed by the board to operate a cremation establishment and crematory equipment. Sec. 2. NEW SECTION. 156.6 Crematory operators. 1. The board shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 17A for the licensure of crematory operators. The rules shall require an applicant to complete a course of study of not less than twelve hours of education and practical instruction in the operation of crematory equipment. 2. The board shall issue a crematory operator license to a funeral director who submits an application in a form prescribed by the board and who has not had a funeral director's license revoked or suspended by the board within the two years immediately preceding the date of application. Sec. 3. Section 156.9, Code 2025, is amended to read as follows: 156.9 Revocation of license to practice mortuary science or operate a cremation establishment. 1.
