A RESOLUTION recognizing, honoring and commemorating the life and career of Representative Billie Ray McCreary. WHEREAS, Today, we recognize and honor the life and career of our late colleague, Representative Billie Ray McCreary, familiarly known as Bill McCreary; and WHEREAS, Bill grew up in Joplin, Missouri, and upon graduating high school, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and moved to Monterey, California, where he studied Russian at the Army Language School; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the Security Service in Germany, Bill served as a paratrooper. He completed 21 jumps over the course of his military career and earned an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant; and WHEREAS, Bill was a devoted husband and father to three children; and WHEREAS, Bill began working in the grocery business and, as a result of his skills and strong work ethic, became manager of a grocery store in Ottawa, Kansas, and later operated several grocery stores with his brother Virgil; and WHEREAS, In his free time, Bill was an active member of the Wellington First Christian Church and an affiliate member of the Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas.
