A RESOLUTION recognizing, honoring and commemorating the life and service of Representative Harold Lane. WHEREAS, Today, we recognize and honor the life and service of our late colleague Representative Harold Lane, a dedicated public servant, business owner and lifelong resident of Topeka whose commitment to his community reflected a spirit of service, integrity and generosity; and WHEREAS, Harold Lane was born on July 1, 1954, in Topeka, Kansas, where he spent his life serving his neighbors and contributing to the vitality of his hometown; and WHEREAS, After graduating from Topeka High School in 1972, Harold honed practical skills in heating, ventilation and air conditioning at Kaw Valley Technical School, reflecting his lifelong passion for hands-on problem solving and helping others; and WHEREAS, Harold worked at Lane's, his family's grocery store, which evolved into the well-known Lane's BBQ, a family business spanning three generations that he and his wife, Jane, operated with warmth and hospitality until its closing in 2009; and WHEREAS, Harold's dedication to public service led him to serve on the Topeka City Council, where he worked tirelessly to guide the growth and governance of the city, earning the respect of his neighbors and colleagues alike; and WHEREAS, Harold was appointed to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2003 to represent District 58 and was subsequently elected six times, …
