A RESOLUTION recognizing May 2026 as Love Your Smile Month. WHEREAS, cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common congenital conditions, affecting one newborn every three minutes; and WHEREAS, many families across the world lack access to the resources and medical care needed to address these cleft conditions; and WHEREAS, every year, eight Kentuckians will be born with a cleft palate; and WHEREAS, while many with cleft conditions can receive the care they need, the public support they receive in the Commonwealth is minimal; and WHEREAS, Smile Train, the world's largest cleft-focused organization, is dedicated to working towards their mission of providing free cleft surgeries and comprehensive care to children in need; and WHEREAS, by designating May 2026 as Love Your Smile Month, the Commonwealth has the opportunity to raise awareness of cleft conditions, reduce the stigma associated with cleft conditions, and support the global effort to create brighter futures for children with cleft conditions; and WHEREAS, this initiative furthers Smile Train's vision of empowering our communities and spreading awareness about the importance of early intervention and comprehensive cleft care; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1.
