A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Henry Nicholas "Nick" Baker. WHEREAS, Nick Baker was born in Hazard, Kentucky, and grew up on his family's farm in Viper, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, Nick Baker made Louisville his home for 66 years and practiced law for 50 years; and WHEREAS, Nick Baker graduated from Georgetown College in 1959, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha order, and graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 1966; and WHEREAS, Nick Baker joined the U.S. Army at Fort Knox in 1959, served six months of active duty in the 100th Training Division, and was a reservist until 1965; and WHEREAS, Nick Baker was a firm believer in civic duty, and he served the Commonwealth as a senator of the 38th District in the Kentucky State Senate from 1970 to 1978; and WHEREAS, while serving in the Senate, Nick Baker introduced Senate Bill 73, which required any school with a men's basketball team that receives state funds to also establish a women's team; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 73 brought girls' basketball back to Kentucky high schools after a 42-year lapse, changing the lives of countless aspiring female athletes, opening doors to Kentucky girls who might not have been able to afford postsecondary education and enabling women …
