A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Brenda Holmes. WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes was born on November 30, 1954, to the late Stanley and Sallie Smith; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she pursued her passion for education and received her bachelor's degree; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes nurtured the minds of many young children throughout her career, devoting 29 years of her life to teaching elementary school students; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes continued to have an impact on the lives of students even after retirement, volunteering her time as a teacher for Vacation Bible School and the Read to Succeed program; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes also discovered a passion for photography and poetry during retirement and enjoyed sharing her poetry and words of encouragement with others; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes deeply loved her family and especially treasured making memories with her beloved grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes departed this life on April 4, 2026, having lived a life of service to others and to God; and WHEREAS, Brenda Holmes is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward Holmes; children, Margot Smith and Ryan (Georgina) Holmes; two sisters, Doris (George) White and …
