A resolution to declare February 11, 2026, as White Shirt Day in the state of Michigan. Whereas, February 11 marks the anniversary of the historic Flint Sit-Down Strike of 1937, This anniversary is a reflection of the sacrifice, commitment, and determination of those first United Auto Workers (UAW) members who paved the way for higher pay and improved benefits that have created a positive atmosphere for all of America's working men and women; and. Whereas, The Flint Sit-Down Strike demonstrated the power of unity, courage, and perseverance among working men and women who stood together to demand dignity, respect, and opportunity in the workplace; and Whereas, The tradition of wearing a white shirt on this day symbolizes the principle that all work is honorable and that blue-collar and white-collar workers alike deserve equal respect, fair treatment, and recognition for their contributions to our economy and communities; and Whereas, Michiganâs prosperity has been built by generations of workers in manufacturing, agriculture, construction, health care, education, public safety, small businesses, and countless other industries whose labor continues to shape the strength and character of our state; and Whereas, White Shirt Day provides an opportunity to honor the contributions of workers past and present, recognize the importance of strong labor standards, and reaffirm Michiganâs commitment to fairness, opportunity, and economic dignity for all; …
