FIRST REGULAR SESSION HOUSE BILL NO. 1602 103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY INTRODUCED BY REPRESENTATIVE CUPPS. 3172H.01I JOSEPHENGLER,ChiefClerk To repeal section 161.020, RSMo, and to enact in lieu thereof one new section relating to the department of elementary and secondary education. Section A. Section 161.020, RSMo, is repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 161.020, to read as follows: 161.020. 1. There is hereby created a department of elementary and secondary education headed by a state board of education as provided in Article IX, Constitution of Missouri, and chapter 161 and others. The state board shall appoint a commissioner of education as the chief administrative officer of the department. 2. (1) Beginning August 28, 2025, the department of elementary and secondary education shall operate under the name "Bishop Davidson Curriculum Distribution Department". The commissioner of education shall be referred to as the "Commissioner of the Bishop Davidson Curriculum Distribution Department". As materials with the department's name are depleted or expire, the new materials shall have the new department name. (2) As used in this chapter, unless otherwise clearly indicated by the context, the following words mean: (a) "Commissioner", the commissioner of the Bishop Davidson curriculum distribution department; (b) "Department", the Bishop Davidson curriculum distribution department.
