One Hundred Ninth Legislature - First Session - 2025 Introducer's Statement of Intent LB262 Chairperson: Senator Robert Clements Committee: Appropriations Date of Hearing: February 18, 2025 The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be accomplished thereby: LB 262, introduced by the Speaker at the request of the Governor, is part of the Governor's biennial budget recommendations. The bill provides for the appropriations each year of the biennium for the salaries of members of the Nebraska Legislature. This separate appropriation bill is required by the State Constitution and funds the $12,000 annual salary of each senator and the corresponding employer payroll contribution for Social Security. The bill contains the emergency clause and becomes operative July 1, 2025. Detailed information regarding the Governor's budget recommendations may be found in the 2025-2027 Biennium Executive Budget Recommendations, which may be viewed on the Department of Administrative Services State Budget Division's website at: https://das.nebraska.gov/budget/publications.html.
