Status: Failed, April 17, 2026
What the bill says
From the introduced text:
One Hundred Ninth Legislature - Second Session - 2026 Introducer's Statement of Intent LB1008 Chairperson: Senator R. Brad von Gillern Committee: Revenue The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be accomplished thereby: LB1008 would revise the growth formula for the School District Property Tax Relief Credit Fund (Tier II) so that it more closely mirrors the growth formula used for the Property Tax Credit (Tier I) Current law applies a fixed 3 percent annual growth rate to Tier II relief starting in fiscal year 2030/31. This approach results in slower growth compared to Tier I and causes the amount of property tax relief to fall behind increases in statewide property valuations and total property taxes levied. This bill replaces that with a growth formula that matches Tier I, improving the long-term property tax relief. Principal Introducer: ________________________________ Senator Tom Brandt
