An Act concerning income verification and amending and supplementing chapter 21 of Title 43 of the Revised Statutes. Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey: 1. (New section) This act shall be known and may be cited as the Efficient Income Verification Act. 2. (New section) The Legislature finds and declares that: a. The federal government has enacted significant changes to the administration of public benefit programs through the federal law commonly known as H.R. 1, including new requirements concerning eligibility verification and work requirements for certain programs. b. These federal changes will require New Jersey to modernize the manner in which it verifies income and determines eligibility for public benefits. Timely and accurate income information is increasingly important to the State's ability to implement federal requirements and administer public benefit programs effectively. c. Under existing systems, income information available to the State may not reflect an individual's current circumstances. This can create unnecessary administrative burdens and contribute to both erroneous payments and delays or interruptions in benefits for individuals who remain eligible. d. New Jersey should take advantage of information already available through existing State systems to modernize income verification and improve the administration of public benefits.
