GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NORTH CAROLINA SESSION 2025 H Simple Resolution Adopted HOUSE RESOLUTION 1245 Adopted 8/5/26 Sponsors: Representative Bell. Referred to: Calendar 8/5/2026 August 4, 2026 A HOUSE RESOLUTION HONORING THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND CELEBRATING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. Whereas, July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary--the Semiquincentennial--of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of America; and Whereas, for two and one-half centuries the people of the United States have built and sustained a nation dedicated to the principles of liberty, equality, and self-government; and Whereas, the State of North Carolina played a pivotal role in the movement for American independence; and Whereas, on April 12, 1776, the Fourth Provincial Congress, meeting at Halifax, adopted the Halifax Resolves, the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence from Great Britain, a date memorialized on the North Carolina State flag and seal; and Whereas, the citizens of Mecklenburg County are remembered for the Mecklenburg Resolves of May 1775, among the earliest American expressions of the desire for independence; and Whereas, North Carolinians served with distinction throughout the Revolutionary War; and Whereas, true to its motto of "To …
