A Resolution proclaiming the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and declaring Wednesday, April 29, 2026, as Denim Day. WHEREAS, the United States Government has declared April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the nonprofit organizations Peace Over Violence and the Young Women's Christian Association have declared April 29, 2026, as Denim Day; and WHEREAS, both events are intended to draw attention to the fact that sexual violence remains a serious issue in our society; and WHEREAS, sexual violence has a profound and lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities, affecting people of all ages, races, national origins, faiths, gender identities, sexual orientations, immigration statuses, and economic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Denim Day were also instituted to call attention to misconceptions and misinformation about sexual violence and the problem that many people in our society remain disturbingly uninformed with respect to issues of sexual harassment, assault, abuse, and rape; and WHEREAS, national data indicate that one in three women and one in four men will experience some form of sexual violence during their lifetime, with even higher rates reported among people of color, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and members of underserved communities; and WHEREAS, every sixty-eight seconds, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted, and every nine minutes, that victim is a child; and …
