A RESOLUTION Designating August 8, 2025, as "Brain Aneurysm Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania. WHEREAS, Each year in the United States, approximately 30,000 people experience a ruptured brain aneurysm, equivalent to about 50 cases per 100,000 individuals annually, meaning a rupture occurs roughly every 18 minutes; and WHEREAS, Globally, brain aneurysms claim nearly 500,000 lives each year, with half of those affected under 50 years of age; and WHEREAS, An estimated 6.8 million Americans, or about 1 in 50, are living with an unruptured brain aneurysm; and WHEREAS, Unruptured brain aneurysms are most common in individuals 35 to 60 years of age, though they can occur in children; and WHEREAS, Most brain aneurysms develop after 40 years of age; and WHEREAS, Women are more likely than men to have a brain aneurysm, with a ratio of 3 to 2; and WHEREAS, The risk of rupture is especially elevated in women over 55 years of age, who face a 1.5 times greater risk than men; and WHEREAS, The consequences of a rupture are often devastating, with about 50% of ruptured brain aneurysms being fatal; and WHEREAS, Among survivors, roughly 66% suffer permanent neurological impairments, and alarmingly, 15% of individuals with a ruptured aneurysm die before reaching the hospital, typically due to rapid and severe brain injury caused by the initial bleeding; and …
