A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Dr. Christiane Buggs, executive director of Nashville PENCIL. WHEREAS, it is fitting that we should salute those citizens who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as community leaders of whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such noteworthy person is Dr. Christiane Buggs, who serves as the executive director of Nashville PENCIL (Public Education Needs Community Involvement and Leadership), a Nashville nonprofit organization that links community resources for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) to help young people achieve academic success and prepare for life; and WHEREAS, a respected professional with proven successes in building partner and donor relationships, Dr. Christiane Buggs is a fifth-generation Nashvillian and has engaged with public education in Nashville throughout her life an MNPS alumna, former MNPS teacher, past MNPS school board chair, and current MNPS parent; and WHEREAS, a former middle school math teacher for MNPS, Dr. Buggs successfully ran for the MNPS Board of Education in 2016 and was re-elected to a second term in 2020, quickly becoming its chair as the school district continued to navigate the aftermath of the March tornadoes and the COVID-19 pandemic; and WHEREAS, in her role at Nashville PENCIL, Dr. Buggs's strong passion for and commitment to the students of Metro Nashville Public Schools guides her in leading PENCIL …
