A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate the Memphis Zoo on the occasion of its 120th anniversary. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly are pleased to recognize those exceptional institutions that provide extensive educational opportunities and valuable entertainment to the citizens of the Volunteer State and beyond; and WHEREAS, one such entity is the Memphis Zoo, a premier and beloved destination of children and adults alike, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year; and WHEREAS, founded on April 4, 1906, the Memphis Zoo spans seventy-six acres across three zones and encompasses nineteen exhibits, including fan favorites such as Teton Trek, Northwest Passage, and Cat Country; and WHEREAS, throughout its long and distinguished history, the Memphis Zoo and its dedicated staff have championed wildlife conservation, education, and meaningful community engagement; and WHEREAS, today, more than 3,500 animals representing more than 500 different species from many parts of the world are housed at the Memphis Zoo, which provides a healthy home for its animals while engaging with and inspiring its visitors to better understand and preserve wildlife; and WHEREAS, the Memphis Zoo has garnered numerous accolades, including Newsweek Readers' Choice #2 Best Zoo in the U.S. in 2024, USA Today's Top 5 Best Zoos in 2014 and 2022, and TripAdvisor's Number One Zoo in America in 2008; and WHEREAS, the Memphis Zoo …
