A RESOLUTION to recognize Trooper William Bennett on the occasion of his retirement. WHEREAS, our nation was conceived by individuals who were willing to sacrifice their personal concerns to ensure the public safety and welfare, and the Volunteer State is especially proud to be the home of so many valiant individuals; and WHEREAS, one such individual is Trooper William Bennett of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who has rendered sterling service to the people of the State of Tennessee for thirty years and will be taking his much-deserved retirement; and WHEREAS, a 1986 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School, Trooper Bennett is a United States Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg during the mid1980s; and WHEREAS, following his honorable discharge from active duty, he worked as a commercial diver in the offshore oilfield industry while continuing his military service with the Tennessee and Texas National Guard; and WHEREAS, Trooper Bennett attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with minors in Psychology and Political Science; and WHEREAS, Trooper William Bennett began his law enforcement career in 1997 with the Wilson County Sheriff's Department as a patrol officer and was selected in 2002 to attend the Tennessee Highway Patrol Academy; upon graduation from the Academy, he served as …
