AN ACT relating to a study and report by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board regarding health physics education in this state. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 61, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 61.06696 to read as follows: [ADDED: Sec.][ADDED: ][ADDED: 61.06696.][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: STUDY AND REPORT ON HEALTH PHYSICS ] [ADDED: EDUCATION. (a) ][ADDED: ][ADDED: The board, in collaboration with the Texas ] [ADDED: Workforce Commission, shall conduct a study on health physics ] [ADDED: education in this state.] [ADDED: (b) The study must:] [ADDED: (1)][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: identify gaps in health physics training programs ] [ and] [ADDED: (2)][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: assess workforce needs in the nuclear energy and ] [ADDED: radiological safety sectors.] [ADDED: (c)][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: Not later than December 1, 2026, the board shall prepare ] [ADDED: and submit to each standing committee of the senate and house of ] [ADDED: representatives having primary jurisdiction over higher education ] [ADDED: or workforce development a written report that:] [ADDED: (1)][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: summarizes the results of the study conducted ] [ and] [ADDED: (2)][ADDED: ][ADDED: ][ADDED: includes recommendations for legislative or other ] [ADDED: action based on the results of the study.] [ADDED: (d) This section expires September 1, 2027.] SECTION 2.
