to amend 30.80 (1); to create 30.50 (2m), 30.52 (5) (c), 30.62 (7) and 230.80 (7) of the statutes; relating to: carbon monoxide detection systems on 3motorboats and providing a penalty. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau This bill prohibits the operation of a motorboat with an enclosed accommodation compartment unless 1) the motorboat is equipped with a marine carbon monoxide detection system and 2) a carbon monoxide warning sticker is affixed to the interior of the enclosed accommodation compartment. The bill also prohibits the sale of a new motorboat unless the motorboat is equipped with a marine carbon monoxide detection system and the carbon monoxide warning sticker. The bill provides for a $300 forfeiture for second and subsequent violations of these requirements. The bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to provide printed information about the dangers of carbon monoxide and boating to any person who applies for a certificate of number card or a registration card for a motorboat. If the boat is a cabin motorboat, which is a motorboat with enclosed spaces inside its structure, DNR must also provide the person a carbon monoxide warning sticker.
