White, Jr. Councilmember Janeese Lewis George Councilmember Christina Henderson Councilmember Zachary Parker Councilmember Wendell Felder Councilmember Charles Allen Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION ______________ IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ____________________________ To honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Talib Shakir, a dedicated public servant and advocate for returning citizens, whose service expanded opportunity and strengthened communities across the District of Columbia. WHEREAS, Talib Shakir was born and raised in the District of Columbia and devoted himself to serving the city he called home; WHEREAS, after more than two decades of incarceration, Mr. Shakir returned to his community and dedicated his life to helping others rebuild their lives and pursue new opportunities; WHEREAS, Mr. Shakir understood that learning could bring people together, and, after challenging a student from Honduras to learn English, he committed himself to learning Spanish and became certified to teach it; WHEREAS, after returning home, Mr. Shakir continued his education through Georgetown University's Pivot Program and built a career in public service that drew on his own experience of rebuilding his life after incarceration; WHEREAS, Mr. Shakir served as Deputy Director of Community Relations in the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services, coordinating constituent engagement and government services across all eight wards; WHEREAS, Mr. Shakir …
