III 119th CONGRESS 2d Session S. RES. 918 IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES September 29, 2026 Mr. Gallego submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Rules and Administration RESOLUTION Establishing the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence. SECTION 1. Definitions In this resolution: (1) Artificial intelligence The term artificial intelligence has the meaning given that term in section 5002 of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020 ( 15 U.S.C. 9401 ). (2) Artificial intelligence system The term artificial intelligence system means any machine-based system that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers from the input it receives how to generate outputs, including predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions, that can influence physical or virtual environments. (3) Select Committee The term Select Committee means the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence established by section 2. SECTION 2. Establishment (a) In general There is established a select committee of the Senate, to be known as the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence . (b) Duration The Select Committee shall be established during the 120th Congress and shall continue in existence unless otherwise provided by the Senate. SECTION 3. Membership (a) Composition The Select Committee shall be composed of not more than 13 Senators, appointed by the President pro tempore of the Senate.
